Itzak's Grave

Our dear departed cat Itzak has bloomed a year later. Imagine the joy of
coming back as a flower.

Very Early Spring

The Magnolia Trees are in full flower but not much else in the floral
landscape is even awake.
However, the Camellias planted in the more protected area along the house
are happening.

Pruning the Gravenstein Apple tree

Between Jose's strong arms and my eye, we pruned this 35 year old tree,
planted as a baby whip by Buzz and I in 1977. It was long overdue for a
serious cut back. The burn pile with the top of the tree almost the size of a tree !

Tree Dahlias

They grow like bamboo! I cut them to the ground every year after they bloom
and look what they do! They are the last flower of the year in my garden.

What have we here?

Took a walk out to the orchard yesterday to look over the apple harvest.
Looked down to discover a familiar oversized dung offering, a bear's
leavings!
The old orchard fence made high enough to keep out leaping deer is not
strong enough to keep out a determined bear.
Had one visit a few years ago about this same time of year. Helping itself
to my ground falls and getting so happy he had to leave me a gift.

Sungold, the best tasting tomato ever!

The Sunglod variety is growing like grapes in clusters this year, very
prolific. This tomato has a sweet tangy taste, skins aren't tough and when
you pop one in your mouth you giggle with delight.

About

I have been a gardener all of my adult life. How an urban girl, born and raised in San Francisco, found her way to the garden is a story, but suffice it to say, I am not leaving anytime soon. Flowers intoxicate me, there's nothing, nothing, like homegrown vegetables or eating an apple freshly picked off a tree, one I planted, no less.
This blog is where my enthusiasm spills over. :>
